Clos de la Roilette is a leading estate in Beaujolais and we love their precise, classical Fleurie, grown on granite soils. Gamay’s pure kirsch cherries and violet notes combine with mineral freshness. Light, crunchy tannins and a nimble body make for a delightfully easy-going wine packed with juicy flavour. The 2017 is still tightly wound, but full of life. Great when served a little cool. It should drink very well over the next two years.
Fleurie, Red Burgundy
At the very southern tip of Burgundy, to the west of Villefranche-sur-Saone, lie the vineyards of Beaujolais. Light years from the illustrious slopes of the Cote d’Or, this is the home of the Gamay grape which thrives on granite soils. The grapes are vinified whole which results in lovely, fresh fruity red wines for early drinking. Fleurie is one of ten crus in the area producing a higher quality of wine than straightforward Beaujolais or Beaujolais villages. The wines are very appealing, full of perfumed fruit with a fresh, crunchy texture.
