Fürst

One of the most famous names of German Pinot for those in know, the Fürsts have been growing grapes since 1638. Paul Fürst, the current family member at the helm, took over the estate in 1975. Dynamic and determined, he increased the family vineyard holdings from 6 to 50 hectares and established Burgundian vinification methods. Today, they produce some of the most delicious Pinot Noirs in Germany. Pure, silky and terroir-driven, they embody Germany’s poised and ethereal style at its best which Paul describes as ‘crystalline and elegant’.

Region

Franken, Germany & Austria

This region in central Germany is mainly planted with white varieties. However, the small proportion of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) plantings – only 20% of the vineyard area – mean it is emerging as Germany’s premium red wine producing region, thanks especially to growers like Paul Fürst, whose crystalline, pure wines are leading the way. Growers are planting with Dijon clones, which produce silky, precise wines. The cru system here (Grosse Gewäch = Grand Cru) will reward any Pinot lover looking for exemplary quality beyond Burgundy.
